Policy Introduction

Thai authorities allow pilots to fly drones in compliance with Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) regulations. The CAAT has issued a series of regulations for drone flight operations, and some highlights of these regulations are listed below.

Always fly below the CAAT’s altitude limit (90 m)

Do not fly in or near restricted areas, official facilities, or hospitals

Always check the CAAT website for updates and information before flying

Do not fly within 9 km of an airport

Always maintain visual contact with your drone

Do not fly within 30 m of people, buildings, or vehicles

Steps to follow as a new drone pilot

  • You must register any drones over 2 kg in weight before flying. (All DJI consumer drones are less than 2kg)
  • You must obtain permission from the minister of transport before flying drones over 25 kg.
  • Violation of any CAAT policies may be punished by to up to one-year imprisonment, a fine of up to 40,000 THB, or both.

Small Batteries

Carry-on BaggageEach passenger can carry no more than 20 detached batteries on board. Attached batteries can be carried on board.
Checked-in BaggageDetached batteries cannot be checked in. Equipment with small attached batteries can be checked in.
Common EquipmentMavic Series, Phantom Series, Spark, Osmo Series, product accessories.

Medium Batteries

Battery Energy100-160 Wh
Carry-on BaggageEach passenger can carry no more than 2 detached batteries on board. Attached batteries can be carried on board.
Checked-in BaggageDetached batteries cannot be checked in. Equipment with medium attached batteries can be checked in.
Common EquipmentCertain Inspire and Matrice aircraft.
