Policy Introduction

British authorities allow tourists to fly drones under Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations. The CAA has issued a series of regulations for drone flight operations, and some highlights of these regulations are listed below.

Steps to follow as a new drone pilot

  • Your drone must not weigh more than 20 kg. If your drone weighs between 7 and 20 kg, please check CAA’s website for additional rules. All DJI Consumer drones are less than 7kg.
  • Keep 150 ft (50 m) away from people and property, unless you apply for special permission from the CAA.
  • Keep 500 ft (150 m) away from crowds and built-up areas, unless you apply for special permission from the CAA.
  • Applications for commercial use and FPV flight are necessary.
  • Check local GEO zones before every flight.
  • British overseas territories like Gibraltar and Cayman Islands have unique regulations. Check local rules before flying.
