1. What is SmoothTrack mode?

SmoothTrack gives a single gimbal operator the ability to transform their tilt and pan movements into smooth and stabilized camera angle changes. This makes framing wide-angle or close scenes significantly easier for a single operator.

2. How much does the Ronin weigh?

It weighs 4.20kg (9.26lbs), including the handlebar and battery.

3. How much weight can the Ronin hold?

4. What kind of cameras does the Ronin support?

It currently supports cameras with a maximum depth of 140 mm (measured from the center of gravity), a maximum height of 225 mm, and a maximum width of 195mm. The maximum load weight is 7.25kg (16lbs). Cameras such as the BMPCC, BMCC, Canon 1Dc, Canon 5D MK II, Canon 5D MK III, Canon 6D, Canon 7D, Canon C100, Canon C300, Canon C500, Nikon D800, Panasonic GH3/GH4, Red Epic/Scarlet, Sony Nex7, among others, can be used.

5. Is it difficult to balance the gimbal and camera?

No, no tools are needed to balance the camera. Changing the setup for different camera arrangements is quick and simple. (Please balance the camera as best as you can. To balance the camera, view the tutorial video)

6. How many modes does the Ronin have and how can I switch between them?

There are three different modes of operation. These allow the Ronin to be used in different scenarios. They are Upright mode, Underslung mode, and Briefcase mode.
The default operation mode is Underslung mode.
To switch to Upright mode from Underslung mode, turn the Ronin so the front faces toward you. Flip the gimbal over to bring the camera closer to eye level for a higher perspective.
To switch to Briefcase mode from Underslung mode, turn the handlebar 90 degrees from the gimbal, then swing the handlebar downward until the mode automatically changes. Briefcase mode must be activated in the Assistant app.

7. Can the Ronin carry bigger cameras such as the Sony F55?

The maximum load weight of the Ronin is 7.25kg (16lbs). The following cameras can be used with the Ronin: BMPCC, BMCC, Canon 1Dc, Canon 5D MK II, Canon 5D MK III, Canon 6D, Canon 7D, Canon C100, Canon C300, Canon C500, Nikon D800, Panasonic GH3/GH4, Red Epic/Scarlet, and Sony Nex7. Other cameras similar in size and weight to the cameras mentioned above can also be used. The maximum supported depth from the center of mass on the camera base plate is 140mm, the maximum supported height measured from top of camera base plate is 225mm, and the maximum supported width is 195mm.
Two type accessories have been made available for the use of larger cameras.

8. Can the Ronin series provide power for other equipment or cameras?

Two regulated 12V P-taps, one 500mAH full size USB connector, and one DJI Lightbridge HD Video Downlink port offer a convenient power source for other equipment, all while keeping the wiring to a minimum. The Ronin/Ronin-m cannot provide power for additional cameras.
An optional battery power distributer can be installed on the Ronin-mx, provide power for additional cameras.

9. What is the main difference between the Ronin-M and the original Ronin?

The Ronin-M is much lighter, more compact, easier to transport, and offers the ability to shoot in a wider variety of shooting scenarios when space and flexibility are key. Perfect for aspiring and professional filmmakers, the Ronin-M makes DJI’s world-class stabilization technology accessible to a wider range of creators.While the original Ronin is still suitable for those who require maximum carrying capacity for full setups that would include very heavy cameras, large lenses, and other professional tools to be used together, the Ronin-M is powerful enough to hold and stabilize setups for most shooting situation

10. How much does the Ronin-M weigh?

It weighs 2.3kg (5lbs), almost half the weight of the original Ronin, including the handlebar and battery.

11. How much weight can the Ronin-M hold?

12. What kind of cameras does the Ronin-M support?

The Ronin-M supports a wide variety of camera systems that weigh less than 3.6kg (8lbs). This includes the Sony A7S, Canon 5D, Nikon D800, Panasonic GH4, and more. The Ronin-M can be easily balanced and auto-tunes to support your preferred setup. The maximum supported depth from the center of mass on the camera base plate is 140mm, the maximum supported height measured from top of camera base plate is 225mm, and the maximum supported width is 195mm.

13. Does the Ronin-M come with a carrying case?

The Ronin-M has a dedicated carrying case, but you need to purchase it separately.
Notice: Ronin-mx has not a dedicated carrying case now, and the Ronin-m's one is not compatible with Ronin-MX.

14. Is the Ronin series waterproof?

No. The system battery, motors, and other electronic equipment are not waterproof.

15. What’s the difference between the Ronin, Ronin-M and Ronin-MX?

The Ronin-MX has been designed for use both in the sky and on the ground and communicates directly with the DJI A3 flight controller. The Ronin-MX can be mounted on the Matrice 600 in just minutes, so that you can easily go from shooting handheld to capturing footage from above.
The Ronin and Ronin-M are designed specifically for use on the ground and we do not recommend using them in the air.
The Ronin-MX includes all the functionality of the Ronin and Ronin-M, i.e. Three Operation Modes, built-in receiver and remote control, and is also compatible with DJI Assistant 2 and DJI GO, for controlling gimbal settings.

16. Is the Ronin-MX’s stabilization more accurate and higher-performing than the Ronin and Ronin-M?

Yes. The Ronin-MX is able to handle high G-force environments and changes in acceleration and deceleration speeds (i.e. car racing) to create stable footage with preserved horizon. When flying, the Ronin-MX communicates directly with the DJI A3 Flight Controller and reacts immediately to the pilot’s inputs, so that it is always in sync with the platform’s movements. Furthermore, the motors of the Ronin-MX are stronger than on the Ronin and Ronin-M, making it more powerful and at the same time, reduces noise when filming.

17. What is the biggest weight I can put on the Ronin-MX?

The reference load weight of the Ronin-MX is 10 lbs (4.5 kg).

18. How heavy is the Ronin-MX?

It weighs 6.11 lbs (2.77 kg), including handlebars and battery.

19. What cameras is the Ronin-MX compatible with?

The Ronin-MX supports a wide variety of camera systems that weigh less than 4.5kg (10lbs). 20. I want to mount the RED Epic camera to my Ronin-MX. What accessories should I buy?

A battery power distributor, an additional battery, RED power cables, an extension set, and a RED upper camera mounting plate.

21. When should the camera be mounted to the Ronin-MX upside down?

If you want to shoot the ground vertically with the aircraft, you need to mount the RED camera upside down. The gimbal can rotate the pitch axis of the camera to -135°.

22. What's the maximum speed at which Ronin-MX mounted on a vehicle can work normally?

During testing, the gimbal worked normally at speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour. No current test data is available for higher speeds.

23. Can insufficient motor power cause the gimbal to vibrate?

No. In most cases, vibrations will be caused by improper assembly. To eliminate vibrations, make sure that the lens support is correctly assembled and that the gimbal is properly balanced, before powering on the unit. If there are still vibrations within your unit after powering on the gimbal, adjust the stiffness of each axis until the vibrations disappear.

24. What should I do if the temperature of one of the motors of the gimbal is very high?

Please make sure that your gimbal firmware is of the latest version by connecting the gimbal to the DJI Assistant software for Windows or Mac OS X and check the firmware version under the “Upgrade” tab. Additionally, confirm that the gimbal is correctly balanced before powering the unit on, as improper balance could cause high temperatures.

25. What should I do if videos captured are shaky and not properly stabilized?

Make sure that the lens support is correctly assembled before powering on and that the gimbal is properly balanced. If the issue still exists after powering on the gimbal, adjust the stiffness of each axis and increase the deadband of each axis.

26. Why does my gimbal not follow the movement of the roll-axis after I select roll-axis SmoothTrack?

Please make sure that Briefcase mode is turned off and increase the speed and lower the deadband of the roll-axis. You can set these parameters through the DJI Assistant app for Android or iOS, or through the DJI Assistant software for Windows and Mac OS X.

Remote Controller

1. Can I use third party remote control to control the Ronin series?

Yes. The gimbal supports 2.4Ghz remote controls and has a D-Bus port if you wish to use a non-DJI receiver.

2. When Ronin-MX is mounted on M600, can the standard equipped remote controller of Ronin be compatible to use?

When the Ronin-MX is used with the M600, the Ronin remote controller cannot be used. But the M600 remote controller can be configured to control gimbal rotation.

Assistant App

1. What is the Ronin series' app used for?

The DJI Assistant app allows easy configuration of all system parameters on the fly via Bluetooth.

2. Why Ronin-MX can't connect to bluetooth app? Is there an initial password?

Generally, there will either no password is required, or the default password will be 6 spaces.
Right now, only v1.1.28 for iOS supports Ronin-mx, while for Android users, it is necessary to download the latest Assistant app.

3. Why is there noise and vibrations coming from the gimbal during the Auto Tune Stability calibration?

It is normal for the gimbal to vibrate and emit noise during the Auto Tune Stability calibration.

4. When do I need to use Auto Tune Stability to calibrate the gimbal?

Whenever you change cameras or add/remove accessories that change the weight of the camera, you must manually rebalance the gimbal and then use Auto Tune Stability to calibrate it.

5. When do I need to set the default configuration?

After upgrading firmware, it’s recommended to restore the Ronin to default settings in the Assistant Software then conduct stability adjustments afterwards.

6. What is the default password for the Ronin series in the DJI Assistant app?

There is no default password set for the gimbal. If you forget your password, please connect your gimbal to the DJI Assistant software for Windows or Mac OS X, click “Reset Password”, and then connect the gimbal to the DJI Assistant app for Android or iOS to reset your password.
If the Ronin-MX has a default password, please enter six "space bar".

7. What is Single Axis Follow Mode?

Single Axis Follow mode instructs your gimbal to apply SmoothTrack to only one axis of motion, while keeping your camera perfectly stable and still on the other two axes. For example, this can be used to only allow SmoothTrack to move your camera along the pan axis, while ignoring any accidental motions that would otherwise tilt or roll the camera along those axes.

Battery and Charger

1. How long can the Ronin operate with a fully charged battery?

With the old 3400mAh 4S smart battery fully charged, the Ronin can run for over 4 hours, depending on the attached camera rig and gimbal usage.
With the new 4350mAh 4S smart battery fully charged, the Ronin can run for over 6 hours, depending on the attached camera rig and gimbal usage.

2. How many batteries does the Ronin include in the box?

The Ronin includes only one battery, but there are three positions reserved for storing extra batteries.

3. How long does it take to fully charge the battery of Ronin?

The old battery needs approximately 60 minutes. The new battery needs around 95 minutes.

4. Is it ok to charge the new battery with the old charger or the old battery with the new charger of Ronin?

We suggest charging new batteries with new chargers, since old chargers can only charge new batteries to 90% of their capacity. Old batteries must be charged with old chargers.

5. How long can the Ronin-M operate with a fully charged battery?

With the new 1580mAh 4S smart battery fully charged, the Ronin-M can run for over 3 hours, depending on the attached camera rig and gimbal usage.
With the old 3400mAh 4S smart battery fully charged, the Ronin-M can run for over 6 hours, depending on the attached camera rig and gimbal usage. (Note: Balance your camera and improve the efficiency.)

6. How many batteries are included with the Ronin-M?

The Ronin-M includes two 1580mAh batteries.
Earlier versions of the Ronin-M included one 3400mAh battery.

7. Can the original Ronin battery be used with the Ronin-M or vice versa?

The original Ronin battery can be used with the Ronin-M, but the Ronin-M battery cannot be used in the original Ronin.

8. How long does it take to fully charge the battery of Ronin-M?

The old battery needs approximately 60 minutes. The new battery needs around 70 minutes.

9. Can the Ronin and Ronin-M battery be used with the Ronin-MX, and vice versa?

Yes. The battery that comes in the box with the Ronin-MX is the same as the Ronin-M battery (1580 mAh). You can also add a second Ronin or Ronin-M battery to the Ronin-MX to power a camera or accessories.

10. How long does the Ronin-MX battery last?

The Ronin-MX’s 1580 mAh battery lasts for approximately 3 hours.

11. For how long can the second battery power a camera of Ronin-MX?

The runtime varies depending on the camera. When used with a RED Raven recording 4K video, the 4S 4350 mAh Ronin battery lasts for about 60 minutes.

12. How long does it take to fully charge the battery of Ronin-MX?

Approximately 70 minutes.

Aerial Mode

1. What kind of flying platforms are able to carry the Ronin?

The flying platform must have enough payload capacity and stability to carry the full weight of the Ronin plus your accessories. Please note that unlike the Zenmuse series of gimbals, the Ronin does not have rubber dampers.
The Ronin and Ronin-M are designed specifically for use on the ground and we do not recommend using them in the air.

2. When mounted to the M600, what is the maximum weight for the camera and lens that I mount on the Ronin-MX?

The maximum weight that can be carried by the M600 is 13.2 lbs (6.0kg). As the Ronin-MX weighs 4.74 lbs (2.15 kg, including vibration absorber), the maximum weight that you can fly with the M600 is 8.49 lbs (3.85 kg).

3. How to observe the camera`s scene while mounting Ronin-MX onto M600?

M600 is integrated with Lightbridge 2, you can use HDMI cable to connect camera to Lightbridge 2. But the cable may obstruct the rotation of gimbal. SRW-60G is an optional device for transmitting the scene signal of the camera to the Lightbridge 2 wirelessly, which enables the gimbal to rotate continuously without the needs for returning to central position.

4. When the Ronin-MX is mounted to the M600, what camera functions can be controlled via the DJI GO app and what settings can be configured?

During flight, gimbal settings can be configured, and the shutter can be controller via DJI Go. Recording and focus can be controlled by using the shutter controller and Follow Focus modules. Parameters of the camera, such as ISO, cannot be configured in the DJI GO app.

5. I have noticed a jello effect on my footage. How can I fix this?

Ensure the vibration absorbers have been mounted to Ronin-MX and shoot in an environment with mild wind or without wind. Also, decreasing the shutter speed can eliminate the jello effect.

6. Should I make other adjustments after the shutter speed is decreased to reduce jello effect?

ISO of the camera should also be decreased and a small aperture should be used. In environments with bright sunlight, an ND filter can also be added to minimize jello effect.

7. What should I be aware of if the aircraft is connected directly with a cable instead of with SRW-60G?

It is strongly recommended to limit spacing of the Yaw axis to left 179mm and right 179mm after power-on, which can prevent the gimbal getting stuck. It will be set this way by default with firmware versions as new as or newer than v2.0.

8. What should I do when Roll axis has a drift during the flight?

1. Set the M600+Ronin-MX on the horizontal ground, calibrate the gimbal in the DJI GO.
2. If gimbal calibration is failed, calibrate the IMU of M600 first, then calibrate the gimbal.

9. Is Ronin-MX compatible with A2?

No. Ronin-MX can't get the flight attitude information from A2.

Accessories

1. How can I use the Ronin series with the DJI Lightbridge 2?

A connection port for the DJI Lightbridge 2 is provided on the power distribution box.

2. How can I install follow focus systems or other powered accessories on the Ronin series?

Follow focus systems and matte boxes can be easily mounted on the Ronin series by using industry standard dual 15mm segmented rods. The segmented rods may be customized to different lengths, depending on your camera and lens setup. Two regulated 12V P-taps and one 500mAH full size USB connector offer a convenient power source for various accessories, including follow focus systems, HD video downlinks, and others.

3. How can one operator use the Ronin series?

In SmoothTrack mode, the gimbal will automatically point the camera where you want it to go. A single thumb control will be made available for the gimbal for greater control.

4. Does the Ronin-MX come with the rear battery plate?

The optional battery plate is not included with purchase.

5. What is a Ronin Grip? How do I use it?

The DJI Ronin Grip is an accessory designed for convenient placement and transportation of the Ronin series. It comes in two sizes, one for the Ronin and one for the Ronin-M and Ronin-MX.
A larger grip surface allows easy transfers of the Ronin between camera ops, making it ideal for long takes. When not in use, the entire Ronin-MX can be placed against a wall or car, making it possible to pause during a shoot without the Ronin stand.

6. What is the SRW-60G? Why do I need that?

The SRW-60G is an accessory designed for short-range (approx. 10m) video transmission. It enables video data to be transmitted from the camera to the Lightbridge 2, giving the pilot a live HD view of the camera on the M600. By using different types of transmission cables, you can also use the SRW-60G as a short range video transmitter for other uses than with the Ronin-MX. The SRW-60G unit is prohibited for flight in North America.

7. What is a Remote Start/Stop?

The DJI Remote Start/Stop is an accessory designed for remotely controlling the camera start/stop during video recording, and shutter control for still photography. When used in the air with the Ronin-MX and M600, it can control the camera up to the maximum range of the Lightbridge 2 (3.1 miles).

8. What cameras support the Remote Start/Stop?

The Remote Start/Stop requires different shutter connection cables according to the shutter ports of the camera. Popular camera brands such as Sony, Canon, Panasonic, RED, and BMCC are supported.

9. What is the maximum range over which I can control the camera focus when mounted on the Ronin-MX?

When using the Lightbridge 2 and the DJI Focus with Focus Expansion, the focus/aperture can be controlled over a range of up to 3.1 miles (5 km). When connected directly to the DJI Focus, the control range is about 100 m.

10. Why can’t some larger size cameras can't be balanced on the Ronin-MX?

The Ronin Counter-Weight set can be purchased on the DJI Store. Use the Counter-Weight Set to successfully balance heavier cameras.
